Meridian Speedster – Some Updated Thoughts

I’ve been doing more thinking on the potential schedule of the Speedster. I just don’t think it would be worth trying to make the connection with either the Crescent or the Texas Eagle. Particularly with an overnight schedule.

An overnight schedule would add the complication of having a set of sleeper cars and a dining car included in the trainset. I think simplicity would be better served with a daylight train using only coach and a cafe car. MAYBE a dining car. MAYBE a business class car.

If one could assume around a 12 hour schedule, make it 8AM-8PM. Either direction. If passengers needed to make the connection, that would require an overnight stay.

I did some thinking on the station and have come up with some preliminary stops. Some I am a bit more familiar with, although I really don’t know much past Shreveport westbound.

More work will be required to develop facilities at some of these locations than others. That’s pretty much a given. For my home area, Jackson has an existing station served by train 58/59. The Speedster would not be too much trouble to work into the existing set up for the Jackson facility. There would be a relatively small reverse move required depending on the Speedster direction. I think a reverse move might be required for a Shreveport location, where ever that does end up.

That’s all for now.
