I took a round trip between Montreal and Quebec City in early 2019 on VIA Rail. Not disappointing at all. Nice service and well maintained equipment. I also remember being glad to be in a nice warm, heated rail car looking out at the vastness of the snowy, Canadian winter.

It looks like VIA is in the process of rolling out new Siemens engine power and trainsets. This is very exciting.

It does seem like it will be the shorter routes, like Toronto-Montreal-Quebec City that will probably get the new equipment first. Might be worth a trip back up that way to check it out.
